For most of us, when we start dating online there is some level of disappointment within the first few weeks of signing up for a dating service. From the outside looking in, dating services appear full of single people looking to date. While that’s true, what most of us get wrong (including myself, initially) is the idea that this fact alone will be enough to make dating online easy. As I discuss in my guide and all through this blog, [...]

Some years ago a friend of mine had been discussing the idea of loneliness with me and while she didn’t come out and say she was looking to date, I felt the signs were there. I mentioned this blog and then discussed some ideas on why I think she might want to try it.
She did try it and for a time, things didn’t go very well. She met quite a few jerks and sometimes it seemed to me she was [...]

Some people think about dating online but put it off because they want to improve something about themselves before they start. I don’t have any statistics but I think it’s safe to assume the number one reason for this is to attempt to lose weight. Do I believe this is a good idea? Should a person lose weight before subjecting themselves to online dating?
In my opinion, the answer is no (with one small exception). Why is waiting a mistake?

A Wired article discusses a New York Times article that discusses one professor’s call to ban the words geek and nerd. From the article at NYT:
But David Anderegg, a professor of psychology at Bennington College, says that merely mentioning terms like nerd or geek serves to perpetuate the stereotype. The words are damaging, much like racial epithets, he says, and should be avoided.
This blows my mind because, as both a geek and a nerd, I have to say that these [...]

Do You Have A Dating Addiction?
Steve at SeaCoastOnline.com discusses addictions in general and specifically the idea of having a dating addiction. If you date online long enough you will probably run into someone who seems to have a little too many dating stories. You might find yourself wondering, “Exactly how long has this person been dating online?”. My opinion is that dating addictions exist and that online dating can actually encourage this activity. If I’m honest, when I met Kate [...]

After repeated encouragement from my doctor, my wife and I decided to try a vegan diet he was recommending. Going on this diet wasn’t about losing weight, it was about living healthier. The rules were extensive: no meat, no dairy, very little or no processed sugars, no white flour, no caffeine, no alcohol, nothing that has been overly processed, and we could only cook 15% of anything we ate. As you can see, it’s pretty strict! The only up-side was [...]

In August of 2006, I had my first experience with a fraudulent charge on a credit card. The charge was for service at AmericanSingles.com and was labeled “VISA CHECK CARD PURCHASE SPR*AMERICANSINGLES.COM 888-8543803 CA”. While I had visited AmericanSingles and had used the free services they provide for a short time, I never provided them with a credit card.
I contacted American Singles and they were very easy to work with. They said that the account opened with my credit card [...]
