Earlier this week (July 21st to be exact) marked the last day that any user of Yahoo! Personals could switch to Match.com, the service that will be taking over all the accounts that previously existed within the Yahoo! service.
Yahoo! Personals is the first service I ever paid for when I started dating online. I never had success with this service and as I discuss in my online dating guide, I think it may have had to do with the fact [...]

Recently I had the opportunity to speak to Chloe Rothwell, the CEO of the new online dating service called HelloJackieJoe. This service is unique in that it aims to involve your friends into your online dating experience. The first half of my interview with Chloe is available below:
Describe HelloJackieJoe and how it’s different from other sites that are out there today.
Really what we’re trying to do is create a site where unlike other options where you’re the person [...]

Gone are the days when internet dating sites were for the desperate and the deranged. They used to have a pretty bad reputation with plenty of horror stories attached: people not being who they said they were, people going missing, identity theft – we’ve heard them all. But something has happened over the last five or so years that has made online dating not only acceptable but an intrinsic part of people’s lives.

Here’s an interesting article over at The Hill that discusses how the recession has affected online dating. There are many interesting facts in this article such as Match.com has 56% male members and that when the economy suffers a blow, such as a day where the stock market is down, activity on dating sites goes up. From the article:
A December 2008 national study conducted by eHarmony and Opinion Research Corp. found that, of more than 1,000 adults polled, 19 percent [...]

With the site Chatroulette becoming so popular, it’s no surprise to see people jumping on the idea wagon. In this case, someone has come up with the idea of combining the random video chatting of Chatroulette with dating online and they’ve ended up with MyChanceRomance (or what I would like to call “the most painful way to date online if you hate rejection”).
As with Chatroulette, you’re provided the opportunity to video chat with a random person (of the opposite [...]

In the U.S., Maryland is considering changing the law on how marriage brokering web sites (think “Russian brides”) would work. The idea is that there would be much more controls placed around these sites that could in some way be debilitating to them. Recently I was reading a post that claimed that Facebook was saved by one line of text in this bill (HB65).
Facebook (and services like it) are explicitly excluded as the article correctly points out. However, the [...]

A woman named Terri Carlson has created her own personal online dating service called Will Marry for Health Insurance which is exactly what it sounds like (here’s a photo of her website just in case she does find that husband and brings her site down). Terri has a medical condition that costs her $300 more than she brings in every month and her current health coverage is going to be ending soon. She claims that the only qualification she has [...]

Last month a California court ruled that eHarmony will have to do more to promote its gay and lesbian dating services. I’ve been reading this story around the internet and it seems that many people are suggesting that eHarmony will now accept gay and lesbian singles into their main site. However, after reading some articles I’m pretty sure that this is not the case.
From the article:
The proposed settlement would require eHarmony to display its gay and lesbian dating services more [...]

Poll: Men More Than Women Get Depressed After Breakup
An article discusses poll results from Date.com…results that I found to be rather shocking statistics (I guess since I’m a guy). Apparently, 85 percent of men suffer some form of depression and have difficulty getting back into dating after a break-up. Compared this to only 8 percent of women! A very interesting read and I have to admit I never handled break-ups very well.

Earlier this month the Spark Networks, which owns several dating services, re-branded two of their largest dating services into a new, single service. Starting on January 15th, American Singles and Date.ca are now a single service called Spark.com.
The combination of these two services into one wasn’t the only change: the new service is a major revamp of the old services they offered previously. Of particular note, the following are the stand-out changes to the service:
1. Photos Are Required
Everyone must have [...]

Do You Have A Dating Addiction?
Steve at SeaCoastOnline.com discusses addictions in general and specifically the idea of having a dating addiction. If you date online long enough you will probably run into someone who seems to have a little too many dating stories. You might find yourself wondering, “Exactly how long has this person been dating online?”. My opinion is that dating addictions exist and that online dating can actually encourage this activity. If I’m honest, when I met Kate [...]
