There’s a really interesting article over at Gizmodo that analyzes some OKCupid data to reveal the mathematics of beauty. This is another great article and another example of why I’m such a fan of OKCupid (both as an online dating service and perhaps the best resource for online dating statistics).
The article is interesting and I would recommend anyone interested in the numbers behind what men find attractive to check it out. That being said, something surprised me at the end [...]

Parship.co.uk has put together a graphic that shows some interesting statistics on singles in the UK. You can see the full graphic here.
There are a lot of interesting things in the graphic but the thing that stands out to me the most is that 75% of singles in the UK haven’t had any type of relationship in the last 18 months. I don’t personally have any statistics for the U.S., but that sounds above normal to me. Perhaps singles in [...]

I was recently being interviewed about online dating and we started talking about popular times to date online. I’ve seen statistics time and again that say January and February are the busiest times for online dating. We started talking a little theory behind this and I wanted to share some of those thoughts here.
Before I begin though, there really isn’t a best time to try online dating. Whenever you are ready to try dating online, that’s a great [...]

For the second time, Match has released a LoveGeist report that studies and tracks how people view love and relationships, in particular for those in the UK and Ireland. Even though the study is regional the results can be interesting to anyone and I am sure some of the findings cross borders.
This year’s study was based on working with over 150,000 people and the results are released in a full report as well as in a very interesting interactive map. [...]

Forbes discusses which cities are the best for singles dating online. These conclusions were actually compiled by OKCupid which looked at all of their users to determine which cities had the most active singles.
Boston was declared the best – the article discusses that Boston’s smaller size (relatively speaking) and high population as giving its singles the advantage when dating online. Other cities were cited for, such as San Francisco, were believed to have an advantage because [...]

Online dating success rates are often poured over by those trying to decide if online dating is a good choice for them. Most of the statistics that are available today suggests that online dating success rates are continuing to rise. Some of these statistics include:
In a recent commercial, match.com has claimed that one in five relationships today are now started using an online dating service
eHarmony claims “Today, an average of 236 eHarmony members marry every day in the [...]

If you are using eHarmony, you’ll know that as a part of your profile you fill our your “Must Haves” and your “Can’t Stands”. At the risk of stating the obvious for those not familiar, “Must Haves” are the features you expect your match to have while your “Can’t Stands” are the qualities you don’t want your match to have.
These different qualities are used early in the communication process at eHarmony to either help you eliminate potential bad matches [...]

We all have different voices – some screechy, some mellow; some high, some low. To some extent, our voices play a key part in attracting and being attracted. Seductive, charming, confident voices; Australian accents, Scottish accents, Irish accents – we all have our preferences. Yet little would we suspect that the simple matter of vocal pitch could have an immense influence on our emotions.

Picking the right main profile photo is pretty important. Just about every dating site out there has statistics that show that having a photo at all improves you online dating success quite dramatically. This can even be seen without statistics just based on how aggressive dating sites when it comes to getting you to add your photos. They want you to be successful (so that they in turn are successful) and they know that photos are a huge part of [...]

When I first started providing dating advice, I had assumed that I would have more visitors to my site on the weekends. My thinking was that people would be reminded of being single the most on the weekends and therefore would be looking to solve that problem then. Well, that theory turned out to be incorrect – at least as far as my site statistics are concerned. For as long as I’ve been tracking the traffic to my site I [...]

Gone are the days when internet dating sites were for the desperate and the deranged. They used to have a pretty bad reputation with plenty of horror stories attached: people not being who they said they were, people going missing, identity theft – we’ve heard them all. But something has happened over the last five or so years that has made online dating not only acceptable but an intrinsic part of people’s lives.
