Is eHarmony free? This question comes up from time to time and the short answer is: no, eHarmony is not free (see this post for cost information).
Parts of the service are free and there are also free events that the service has from time to time. These two areas can confuse first time users about eHarmony so I’ll explain each of them and what exactly is free about eHarmony.
What Parts of eHarmony Are Free?
eHarmony is an online dating service [...]

It seems to me that dating commercials in the UK are far superior to those in the US. Here in the States most of our commercials are either couples talking or black-and-white commercials of a single person sitting or laying and occasionally laughing (and I’m not sure what the point is to these commercials, to be honest). I get the feeling I’m not the only one because I am having a hard time even finding the US commercials online! [...]

To business professionals, the idea of dating simply feels like it is not an option. The demand of our jobs or personal lives makes the idea of actively seeking a relationship seem impossible. For many, the common thought is that a relationship is something we will pursue when things “slow down”, next month or next year or who knows when.
Given this situation, we find ourselves resorting to finding our relationships in the workplace (as many as 30% of all relationships [...]

I remember reading about devices in Japan that would alert you when you are near another single person who also had one of these devices. I read about this years and years ago (probably when I first started dating online in 2004) so I can’t remember all the details but I seem to remember that it was a totally separate device, not something that was a part of your cell phone. I also think there was some “hunting for each [...]

What is the difference between eHarmony and Chemistry.com? Is eHarmony better than Chemistry.com?
While the two services appear very similar, I will discuss what I consider the biggest difference between them. Then I’ll discuss some additional feature differences and why in some cases one of the two services may serve you better than the other.
Before I start, if you are brand-new to online dating or are not familiar with either of these services at all, I would recommend you read [...]

Chemistry.com is the other popular matchmaking-based service in the US (with the most popular being eHarmony). The point of Chemistry.com it is to provide you matches based on personality as opposed to having you browse to through hundreds of profiles and randomly picking the people you feel you will get along best with.
I’m going to break this review down into a few sections: first I will talk about signing up and using the service itself, especially the guided communication. Then [...]

Recently I posted my two part interview with Chloe, the CEO of the new online dating service HelloJackieJoe. You can find this interview in the following posts:
Interview Part 1
Interview Part 2
I wanted to take an opportunity to talk a little bit more about this service. The first thing that I’ll say is that in talking with Chloe, I was given the very strong impression that she really does care about providing a great service to singles.

Earlier this week (July 21st to be exact) marked the last day that any user of Yahoo! Personals could switch to Match.com, the service that will be taking over all the accounts that previously existed within the Yahoo! service.
Yahoo! Personals is the first service I ever paid for when I started dating online. I never had success with this service and as I discuss in my online dating guide, I think it may have had to do with the fact [...]

Recently I had the opportunity to speak to Chloe Rothwell, the CEO of the new online dating service called HelloJackieJoe. This service is unique in that it aims to involve your friends into your online dating experience. The first half of my interview with Chloe is available below:
Describe HelloJackieJoe and how it’s different from other sites that are out there today.
Really what we’re trying to do is create a site where unlike other options where you’re the person [...]

Picking the right main profile photo is pretty important. Just about every dating site out there has statistics that show that having a photo at all improves you online dating success quite dramatically. This can even be seen without statistics just based on how aggressive dating sites when it comes to getting you to add your photos. They want you to be successful (so that they in turn are successful) and they know that photos are a huge part of [...]

The cost of Match.com is not too expensive compared to many online dating services. The subscription prices are all based on different time ranges you sign up for. The longer you sign up for, the less you pay per month of using the service. Match.com also offers two versions of its 6 month subscription plan: one with the 6 month guarantee and one without. My opinion on these two plans is that if you are going to sign up for [...]

How About We… is a new online dating service with a very unique way of finding you dates: you choose your dates (and are chosen for dates) based off of what you propose the two of you do on a first date. Basically, you’re finding dates by finishing the phrase “How about we…”
This is a fun way to find dates but it is more than that: it also removes much of the pressure of creating your online dating profile and [...]

Recently I was talking with a woman who was looking for an online dating service but she had a strange requirement: she wanted a service where non-paying members would not be able to see her photo. As I told her, the only site I am aware of that hides photos from non-paying members is eHarmony.
Most Services Do Not Like Hiding Photos
Many dating services do not want to have photos hidden because these photos can convince other singles to sign up. [...]

In my last article I discussed many on-going dating service promotions. Advertised promotions are a great way to save some money signing up for a dating site but it is not the only way. Here is another method to save some money:

Often when dating online, you will find yourself on a date with someone you quickly realize you are not compatible with. Simple profiles frequently fall short of revealing the true character of the people we date. MatchAffinity helps address this issue by taking the compatibility of you and your dates into account before you even see each other’s profiles. MatchAffinity incorporates an extensive compatibility questionnaire to determine your interests, values, beliefs and goals and then uses this information to connect [...]

With the site Chatroulette becoming so popular, it’s no surprise to see people jumping on the idea wagon. In this case, someone has come up with the idea of combining the random video chatting of Chatroulette with dating online and they’ve ended up with MyChanceRomance (or what I would like to call “the most painful way to date online if you hate rejection”).
As with Chatroulette, you’re provided the opportunity to video chat with a random person (of the opposite [...]

A new dating sites, OneGuyOneGirl, claims to simplify online dating by removing most of the decisions required when dating online. From their site:
Your average dating site is saturated by thousands, or even millions of people all with the same goal of meeting the person perfect for them. But with that many people on one site, it can be an impossible task to search through everyone in order to find that person who matches your personality, your lifestyle…
…we simply display One [...]

This is a common question because the cost of eHarmony is expensive, even compared to other online dating service prices. My opinion is that as long as you are getting a reasonable number of matches, eHarmony is worth the price. As I will present here, I think too many people look at the price tag of eHarmony as money they don’t have to spend. Many wrongly believe that the other ways they are meeting people are costing them no money. [...]
