Below is a chart listing online dating site prices. This table has been created to be used as a reference and to give singles an idea of how much each dating service might cost. These prices may change at any time so be sure to verify the actual cost before you subscribe to any service.
Notes on Pricing
Keep in mind that services that charge more often have earned the right to do so. For example, even though eHarmony prices are some [...]

In my last post I discussed some of the good and the bad regarding the usefulness of Chemistry’s 14-day trial. This time I wanted to offer tips to those who do decided to take advantage of this offer. My hope is to provide advice that will help make the most of the dating service while it’s free.
1. Mention You’re Trying the Free Trial
One part that is difficult with any online dating service trial is that the people you contact don’t [...]

Last month a California court ruled that eHarmony will have to do more to promote its gay and lesbian dating services. I’ve been reading this story around the internet and it seems that many people are suggesting that eHarmony will now accept gay and lesbian singles into their main site. However, after reading some articles I’m pretty sure that this is not the case.
From the article:
The proposed settlement would require eHarmony to display its gay and lesbian dating services more [...]

Earlier this month the Spark Networks, which owns several dating services, re-branded two of their largest dating services into a new, single service. Starting on January 15th, American Singles and Date.ca are now a single service called Spark.com.
The combination of these two services into one wasn’t the only change: the new service is a major revamp of the old services they offered previously. Of particular note, the following are the stand-out changes to the service:
1. Photos Are Required
Everyone must have [...]

How much does it cost to join Chemistry.com? As with some other dating services, Chemistry.com is careful not to reveal their pricing until you’ve signed up and taken the personality test. This can be annoying since the test can take over 30 minutes and after you’ve spent that time finding out you can’t afford the service is frustrating. Chemistry.com subscription pricing and cost are listed below.
Chemistry.com Subscription Prices:
1 Month: $49.95
3 Months: $33.32 a month (for a total of $99.96)
6 Months: [...]

Recently I’ve been writing about how niche dating sites can offer more success than the big dating sites simply because the service has already narrowed down its members to those with the single quality most important to you. Because I’ve been offering this advice, I wanted to review some niche sites and I’m starting with CatholicMatch.com.
Look and Feel
My first impression when visiting the site was the beautiful photography on the site, mostly of churches, weddings or couples together. Many niche [...]

Another funny parody site along the same lines as PoorMatch.com, here’s ZombieHarmony. This is actually run by Mingle2, a free dating site. I think their main goal here was to drive traffic to their main site so this parody isn’t nearly as funny as PoorMatch.com but it’s still amusing.
With the Twilight craze going on right now, I can’t help but feel that Mingle2 chose the incorrect undead beings to use to generate traffic. I decided to check to see if [...]

eHarmony is very committed to their matching system. The site takes the approach that it would be better to give its members no matches than to give them bad matches. eHarmony will even reject applicants that they feel they can’t provide adequate matches to. In some ways, it’s good to see eHarmony being so honest but it does cause problems. If you’re not getting any matches, a number of things could be happening.
When I used eHarmony, I was living in [...]

I’ve been bothered lately by Plenty of Fish. I don’t mind that the site has been successful but I do hate when I talk to someone and they say, “Yeah, I tried online dating at Plenty of Fish. I guess internet dating just isn’t for me. The problems were [insert a list of issues here]“. Here’s the thing: in my opinion Plenty of Fish is a far better example of successful internet marketing than it is of online dating. If [...]

Apparently Chemistry.com has been running promotions to increase the number of women using their site. I would assume this is because the ratio of women to men using the dating service needed improved. Well, it looks as if they were a little too successful. Now they have a much higher female to male ratio and they’re in a position where they need to try to correct this.
Here’s the current message they’re sending out to guys:
Online dating sites very rarely [...]

If you’re new to online dating or just wondering if the service you’re using is worth it, here are some signs that it’s time to retire your current dating site and find another.
1. There are advertisements for other dating services
If you walked into a car dealership looking to buy a car, wouldn’t it be strange if the salesman tried to convince you to buy a car from his competition? If Coca-Cola sold their bottles with advertisements for Pepsi on them, [...]

This article is one in a series that discusses protecting yourself from scams when dating online.
As online dating grows more popular so do dating scams associated with them. There are many good resources online describing dating scams but not very many give concrete ways to defend or combat them. Because of this, I want to offer some actual methods to detect if you’re dealing with a dishonest person. I’ll try to cover the tools in detail so you can perform [...]

Note: In discussing this topic I’ll be using a Christian dating service as an example but I hope it becomes clear that this advice can be applied to many different types of niche sites. I use this example as I have some personal experience in the area. I also have a friend who has had success using a Christian service after having no luck with one of the “big” sites and I draw many of my thoughts from conversations with [...]

Have you been rejected by eHarmony? You’re not alone if so: eHarmony claims that as many as 20% of the applicants are rejected. There are several issues which eHarmony explained to the Washington Post as reasons a person can be rejected. As you’ll see, many of these reasons won’t apply to you. Regardless of the reason for your personal experience don’t look at it as a failure of your own. As I’ll discuss, eHarmony is inadequate in some cases for [...]

Nielsen released numbers in June of this year showing which online dating sites were receiving the most traffic. During that month, there were close to 30 million unique visitors across the sites they were tracking…obviously online dating is becoming more popular all the time. The following are a list of the top ten sites based on the data they collected.
10. AOL Personals (Unique visitors in June 2009: 957,000)
Personally, I don’t think this one should count as a dating site at [...]

Yesterday I discussed why the free online dating services have such problems: men who send massive amounts of spam searching for a woman willing to have sex. The services could cancel these men’s accounts but that really accomplishes nothing – they’ll just open another. It would appear that these free services will simply have to accept being plagued with the spammers…right?
I think not. I believe that these free services could implement a system that would remove all of these problems [...]

With completely free online dating services out there, you might wonder how it is that sites that require you to pay have stayed in business. It’s not because there is some hidden price with the free services (they really are totally free). It’s not because the free sites don’t offer similar services (they do, if not always as polished as the pay sites). I believe that pay services continue to thrive along-side free services because of how poorly members of [...]

My last article talked about an offer from Match.com where you could get six months free after paying for six months (although there are more than a few hoops to jump through to earn those free months). At any rate, the very fact that you have to pay for six months up-front got me thinking about how most online dating services offer different time frames for signing up. Many people may wonder how long they should be signing-up for, especially [...]
