Here are two articles that are helpful for finding dates outside of online dating:
For the guys: 6 Ways to Ask Her Out
For the ladies: Help Him Ask You Out!
While I separated those articles based on who they were written for, I found the article for women more interesting. The advice for the guys is good but its not horribly different from other advice I’ve seen on the same topic. I am admittedly thick when it comes to picking up [...]

One of the local newspapers here in Pittsburgh has an advice column which I discovered today. I’m not a fan of these columns because, in most cases, the columnists answer questions as if everything is overly simple. They also come off as overly-confident to me; as if no detail they are unaware of could possibly affect what good advice might consist of. I suppose, though, if you offer advice for a living then it is actually your job to [...]

In my online dating guide, I discussed how first contact should be made. To quickly sum it up: keep the email brief with some type of proof you read the profile.
I’ve covered those points several times in the past so why bring them up again? Primarily because I’ve always been providing second-hand information (that is, bad experiences I have heard about from the women I dated). Today, however, I found a blog post that speaks directly to the points I [...]

crass /kras/ – without refinement, delicacy, or sensitivity; gross; obtuse; stupid
I read an article today that got me worked up regarding what some men see as reasonable communication with women. The author, Barbara/Layla, describes a bad online date which isn’t really the problem (we all have those). The problem begins when the man emailed her after the date to let her know he was not interested, in as rude a fashion as his small brain could devise. I’m not [...]

Since I started this site a few months ago, I’ve been actively looking for great resources that I could share here. Unfortunately, almost everything I have found online has fallen into one of three categories:
Overly general advice that feels extremely polished and impersonal. For example, the type of advice I would expect to see in a Maxim magazine (but less humorous). I find it hard to put much confidence into something that reads as if a team of writers tried [...]

Recently I was reading a TechCrunch article about the online dating services that are taking a different approach. There were two dating sites listed in the article that I was familiar with: Engage.com and GreatBoyFriends.com.
I had read about Engage.com a few weeks ago and was interested by the idea. The service provides what might be called traditional online dating with additional twists to make the site more of a community. In particular, people can use the site for free as [...]

I am always hesitant to give women advice for online dating. Primarily, this is based on conversations I had with dates during my internet dating days. One great conversation starter was to simply talk about the online experience itself. These conversations revealed how very different a woman’s experiences were from mine, although many were similar to one another. While I would compare my experience to searching for that needle in the haystack, these women had experiences more comparable to trudging [...]

Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital. ~Aaron Levenstein
From time to time, articles are published on the best and worst cities to live in if you are single or, maybe more specifically, dating. This year, of the top forty cities measured, my city, Pittsburgh, came in near the very bottom of the list. This is actually an improvement – I know Pittsburgh was dead-last two years in a row a [...]

Perhaps the only downside to consistent success dating online (or any dating, really) is that all that courting starts to hit the wallet pretty hard. I eventually settled on meeting at coffee shops which was cheap but lacked creativity and fun. This article has some great ideas for cheap dates without making sacrifices on enjoyability. Several of these would not work very well in the early dates so use your head! In my opinion, the best first date options listed [...]
