11/17 Dating News: Narcissism, 30 Dates and a Few Dating Tips

Hey, You’re Like Me!
The writer of this article takes a foray into the online dating world and decides that everyone is looking for…themselves. Speaking personally, I find this difficult to agree with. The idea that the common thread of online dating searches are done to find people just like ourselves is something I did not experience (neither in my searching nor in those contacting me). Still, for those out there who are searching for others based on a little too much self-love, the article is well worth a read since. There’s some good advice regarding perusing relationships in this manner and, as the author points out in the second half of the article, the excitement is often found in differences.

One Woman, 30 Dates
The site 30DatesBefore30.com is exactly what it sounds like: the tales a woman attempting to go on 30 dates before her 30th birthday. She refers to it as The Project and her writing is interesting and at times very funny. I’ve not read all of the dates but The Italian Stallion is a personal favorite so far. Sadly, the 30th date has come and gone but she still hasn’t found love. Perhaps she’ll extend it by a few more dates (I suspect her readers wouldn’t mind!) If you’re discouraged by your dating results, tales such as hers are nice as they remind us that we’re not alone in the hassles of dating, online or otherwise.

Some Dating Email Dos And Don’ts
Quick tips on CNN provided by the site TheFrisky.com for sending emails and overall I found the advice good. In some ways I was surprised as I find myself shaking my head more often than not when the main stream media dives into the dating advice business. Maybe it made sense since someone else wrote it (although I’m not actually familiar with TheFrisky.com). I will say that number 5, which says you should wait at least half a day before responding to an email, is just a silly myth (sounds like someone watched Swingers one too many times). I don’t believe that playing these kinds of games help at all but if you’re really worried that someone will lose interest in you because you wrote them back after two hours, I guess you can play it safe.
