Does your profile get a lot of attention but you’re not getting any contacts from other online daters?
I wanted to discuss a few possibilities on why this can happen. One major assumption I’ll be making is that you have a good profile photo. As I’ll discuss later in this article, a good photo is often the most important part of your profile, especially for women. However, since the problem being discussed includes the fact that the profile is receiving [...]

For the second time Lavalife is having a free email weekend (the first free weekend was back in October). The Free Email Weekend begins Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 12:01am local time and ends Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:59am local time. This actually provides two-and-a-half days of free communicating.
Lavalife is an open service like Match.com where you can contact any other user as you wish. This is in contrast to eHarmony, which picks your matches for you and [...]

I approach “self-help” books with a great deal of skepticism. Half the time, these books seem do little more than point out the obvious. Other times they seem to reveal so much but when the advice is applied to the real-world, we have a rude awakening realizing that the “great” advice isn’t easy to apply or simply doesn’t work. The Five Love Languageshowever, is an exception to these norms and the advice it provides was life changing for me [...]

Recently in the Telegraph there was an article that discussed how women should dress at the bar to meet the most men. They’re findings suggest that a woman should reveal 40% of her skin to meet the most men. Revealing too little leads to far less contact from men (up to 40% less). However, revealing much more than this leads also leads to less contact, although the article doesn’t reveal by how much.
A couple of thoughts on this. First, none [...]

A few weeks ago I had mentioned that a study had shown that your appearance in a photo reveals a lot about you. Later I discussed why picking the right photo for your dating profile, even without this study to prove it, is very important.
Newsweek covers this same study in far greater detail in an article called Making a Digital First Impression and a part of the article covered a real-world example of this with online dating. One of the [...]

Some Dating Email Dos And Don’ts
Quick tips on CNN provided by the site TheFrisky.com for sending emails and overall I found the advice good. In some ways I was surprised as I find myself shaking my head more often than not when the main stream media dives into the dating advice business. Maybe it made sense since someone else wrote it (although I’m not actually familiar with TheFrisky.com). I will say that number 5, which says you should wait at [...]

Recently I was contacted by a reader who requested that I look over her profile because she felt like she wasn’t having an appropriate amount of success. She seemed primarily concerned that she may have written it poorly. Well, I took a look and I thought her text was actually quite good. She described herself well, covered what she was looking for, and so on. However, one thing did catch my attention: her photos. She didn’t smile in any of [...]

This is a question shy men often ask due to the dilemma of wanting to be as honest as possible when dating online but, at the same time, not wanting to hurt their chances with women who may reject a man who mentions this trait. I believe the answer to this question really depends on the severity of the shyness. Due to this, I’ll discuss different degrees of shyness and then give my opinion on what should be included in [...]

Writing a profile that stands out is a difficult task for most of us. When asked to describe ourselves, it turns out most of us sound exactly the same. Whether we’re easy-going or fun-loving, whether we love going out or love cuddling up for a movie in, whether we hate playing games or love the outdoors…putting any of this in our profiles make us sound, well, like everyone else. Sounding like everyone else isn’t the worst thing in the world. [...]

What Can You Tell From a Dating Profile Photo?
Single Parent Gossip has an interesting article that discusses how we can detect personality traits just by viewing a picture of someone. The implication here is that if you’ve ever looked at a person’s online dating photos and suspected you would (or wouldn’t!) get along with them, you may subconsciously be picking up on some of their character traits. The article is very interesting and if you’re a single parent the entire [...]

I covered this topic recently in my series of articles on identifying and protecting yourself against online dating scams. While the scams don’t appear to be going away any time soon, there are steps you can take to avoid them and enjoy your online dating.
